La Boite en Bois is our latest great discovery.
Our friends Steve and David Aragona have been telling us about La Boite en Bois in NY City for a year. We recently had a chance to try it and it was even better than Steve and David told us. I can not imagine finding a better French restaurant anywhere in the tri state area. The ambiance was like being in a real French Bistro in the French country side. The service was crisp and friendly. Our young server was giving me a tough time (in a nice way) about my broken French given I had once worked and lived in France. And the food was truly exceptional.
As an appetizer we split an order of home made raviolis filled with mushrooms and in a mushroom sauce. We could have kept eating that single course all night long. For entrees we had their Filet Mignon which my partner for the night said was terrific. I wanted to try something totally different than a usual selection so I went with their Lamb Stew which was awesome. For dessert, we split an order of Frozen Hazelnut Praline Mousse which we battled over to make certain we each got our fair share. It was incredible.
Their wine list is extensive so it would be hard to make a poor choice here.
For two people, including gratuity, the tab came to about $140. I was so enthusiastic about finding La Boite en Bois that I sent emails to three friends who regularly eat out in the city and are often uptown for the Opera. One of them responded saying that when she first started dating her husband over 30 years ago La Boite en Bois is where they used to go.
The night we were there a couple of tables were empty. But apparently you need reservations most evenings. That’s easy to understand. We will go back here ASAP.
